Kevin's story begins with a career in the HVAC industry. Throughout his journey, he worked as a mechanical engineer for Ambridge Hospitality, a full-service firm catering to prestigious brands like Marriott, Embassy Suites, Hyatt, Hilton, Wyndham, Westin, and even The Queen Mary. In this role, Kevin played a crucial role in maintaining HVAC systems in hotels and restaurants around Midway Airport in Chicago.

In November 2022, Kevin's life took a sudden turn when he suffered a dangerous fall. This incident resulted in a seizure and a massive hematoma, ultimately leading to a traumatic brain injury and paralysis on his right side.

During Kevin's recovery, his family prioritized adapting his home environment for wheelchair accessibility. While they successfully implemented changes like ramps, transportation adjustments, and wider doorways, they unfortunately lacked the resources to remodel the bathroom. This was a significant setback, as Kevin's only bathing option was a bathtub-shower combination, posing numerous challenges.

While undergoing rehabilitation at the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab in Chicago, Kevin discovered the Joseph Groh Foundation. This organization provides dedicated support to individuals in the contracting industry who have been impacted by life-altering disabilities.

In a heartfelt request to the Foundation, Kevin wrote: “I am a younger man whose life was turned around in a second... My life goals were changed before my eyes. I worked so hard for years at my career and now I am helpless. I am wheelchair-bound and not in a handicapped-accessible home. Any home improvement help you could provide would be dramatic for my family.”

Thanks to the generosity of the Foundation's supporters, Kevin's request was granted. This enabled the construction of a new, accessible wet bath shower, vastly improving his quality of life.

Upon completion of the project, Kevin expressed his immense gratitude to the Foundation: “Thank you so much, we appreciate what you have done more than we can say.”
