REFRIGERANTS

A DIFFERENT KIND OF COOL

There’s no modern air-conditioning without refrigerants. These chemical compounds are responsible for transferring heat from one area to another, and are a foundational element of most HVAC units and heat pumps.

Refrigerants are essential and effective. And they are evolving. Driven by new regulations, manufacturers have switched to a different class of refrigerants, ones with a lower global warming potential (GWP) than their predecessors.

But not all low-GWP refrigerants are the same. The ideal option is one that’s tailored to the application. That can provide benefits beyond decreasing GWP — from higher-efficiency equipment to maximum lifecycle climate performance.

R-32 REFRIGERANT

Daikin is committed to R-32 as the best replacement for R-410A. This proven technology, found in over 280 million HVAC units across the globe, not only has two-thirds the GWP of R-410A, but can improve both part- and full-load efficiency by up to 12% compared to R-410A systems.

R-32 is a pure, single-component refrigerant. It doesn’t fractionate and, as a result, maintains performance efficiency over time.
R-454B, a proprietary blend, is comprised of R-32 (68.9%) and R-1234yf (31.1%).

Plus, R-32 is manufactured by numerous refrigerant producers. It’s readily available and there are no active patents on the basic molecule, unlike proprietary blends.
